Series of serious traffic accidents reported across Cyprus

Several traffic accidents occurred in Cyprus between September 4 and September 8, 2026, leading to injuries and medical emergencies. On September 4, a collision on the Nicosia-Larnaca highway near Athienou involving three vehicles resulted in two women being hospitalized. Separately, in Nicosia on September 5, a 79-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition following a collision on Nikis Avenue involving a 19-year-old driver. Additional accidents were reported on September 6 on the Limassol-Nicosia highway near Agios Tychonas, and an incident in Pegeia where a vehicle overturned into a field.

The most severe incident occurred on the evening of September 6 on the Agia Thekla-Sotira road, where a 24-year-old motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle. He was initially transported to Famagusta General Hospital and subsequently transferred to Nicosia General Hospital in extremely critical condition. Police reports suggest the motorcyclist may have been speeding while attempting a turn. Authorities continue to investigate these incidents, and on September 8, another collision involving two vehicles was reported on the Larnaca Airport-Ayia Napa highway. The police have emphasized the need for caution and are intensifying road safety checks across the country.
