President Christodoulides announces new support measures for Cypriot communities

On September 4, 2026, during the inauguration of the upgraded Cultural Center of Dymes in Pitsilia, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides announced a series of upcoming initiatives aimed at supporting local communities. The government plans to unveil further measures on September 13, 2026, which will be developed in collaboration with the private sector. These initiatives will focus on key areas including healthcare, education, social welfare, and community nursing services.

In addition to the future announcements, the President confirmed that the salaries of employees working in the Social Welfare Centers (SKE) will be doubled. This decision is part of a broader government policy intended to combat rural depopulation, encourage young people to return to their communities, and ensure that rural residents have access to the same quality of services and standard of living as those in urban centers. President Christodoulides emphasized that these actions represent a structural commitment to the sustainable development of the country rather than fragmented projects, noting that the state has the financial capacity to meet the communities' requests.
