Cyprus announces continued student bus fare subsidies for 2026-2027

The Cyprus Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has officially confirmed that student bus fare subsidies will continue throughout the 2026-2027 school year. This measure, part of the state's social policy, maintains the monthly ticket price at €5 and the annual ticket price at €30, following an initial ministerial decision dated August 27, 2025.

Under this policy, valid from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2027, the state covers €17 for monthly tickets and €190 for annual tickets per student. Furthermore, students from large and five-member families attending public secondary and technical schools are exempt from all fare payments, provided they present valid documentation. Additional exemptions apply to underprivileged students and children of recipients of the Guaranteed Minimum Income (GMI), who are eligible for free monthly or annual passes.

This initiative aims to facilitate affordable transport for students across the country as the new school year commences. Students seeking the exemptions are required to submit relevant identity cards or certificates confirming their family status or income level to the transport providers to receive the zero-cost travel passes.
