Man shot dead by police after standoff on Brooklyn Bridge

In the early hours of Friday, a man was fatally shot by police on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City after a prolonged standoff. Law enforcement officers from the 84th Precinct and the Emergency Services Unit (ESU) responded to reports of an individual climbing onto the bridge's cables, appearing to be in the midst of a psychological crisis.

Members of the ESU attempted to negotiate with the man for nearly an hour while navigating the bridge's structure. According to authorities, the man was armed with a knife, claimed to have a bomb, and ignored repeated commands to surrender.
