Apollon Limassol defeats Anorthosis 3-1 in Cyprus League

Apollon Limassol secured their first victory of the 2026 Cyprus League season on September 5, defeating Anorthosis Famagusta 3-1 at the Alphamega Stadium during the second matchday. Gary Rodrigues opened the scoring for the hosts in the 44th minute, but Anorthosis equalized shortly before halftime through a Kiko penalty. Apollon regained control in the second half with two goals from Ozbolt, sealing the win despite Anorthosis having a goal disallowed by VAR due to a foul.

Manager Hernan Losada praised the result but noted concerns over team fatigue and defensive lapses. The victory was marred by a potential muscular injury to Aggelos Andreou, who left the pitch on a stretcher. Apollon continues to manage several absences, including Thomas, Weisbeck, Ljubic, and Braun. Looking ahead, Apollon is scheduled to face Omonia at GSP Stadium on September 12, while Anorthosis will host APOEL at the Ammoxostos Stadium on the same day.
