Cyprus police arrest five more suspects in transnational murder-for-hire plot

Cypriot authorities have arrested five additional individuals in the Paphos district, bringing the total number of suspects in a major murder-for-hire conspiracy to eight. The arrests followed a coordinated police operation targeting the suspects, who are Swedish nationals aged 21 to 28. During the operation, officers seized a pistol, two knives, gloves, masks, three mobile phones, $1,400 in cash, and various documents from their vehicle and residence. The suspects, who are believed to be members of an organized crime group, remain in police custody under an eight-day remand order.

The investigation originated from intelligence shared by Danish authorities via Europol regarding planned contract killings in Cyprus. The five new suspects are linked to three other individuals—two Norwegians and one Irishman—who were arrested on August 28 in Larnaca and Famagusta. Those three suspects have also been remanded for another eight days. Investigators are currently analyzing seized electronic devices and documents to determine if the group targeted additional victims, noting that the original intended targets were twin brothers who are currently missing.
