Cyprus police arrest five Swedish nationals in connection to murder-for-hire plot

Cyprus police have arrested five Swedish nationals in the Paphos district on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and participation in a criminal organization. The suspects, aged 21, 22, 25, and 28, were intercepted in a vehicle during a coordinated police operation. Upon searching the vehicle and the suspects' residence in Paphos, officers discovered a pistol, knives, gloves, masks, mobile phones, approximately 1,400 US dollars, and various documents. All five individuals have been remanded in custody for eight days by the court.

This investigation is linked to a prior operation in late August that resulted in the arrest of three individuals—two Norwegians and one Irishman—in the Larnaca and Famagusta districts. That earlier investigation was initiated following intelligence shared by Danish authorities via Europol regarding contract killings targeting British twin brothers in Cyprus. The suspects from the initial arrest have also had their remand periods extended by eight days. Cypriot authorities are currently investigating potential connections between the two groups and exploring the possibility that they were planning additional hits beyond the original targets.
