Parents of infant in Kypseli case deny murder charges

As of September 5, 2026, the defense attorney for the parents involved in the Kypseli infant death case, Christos Psarras, has publicly denied the murder allegations against his clients. In statements to ERTnews, the lawyer stated that while the parents acknowledge their failure to adequately perform their parental duties, they categorically reject the accusation of intentional homicide. They maintain that the infant passed away due to natural causes and that they attempted, unsuccessfully, to resuscitate the child, later refusing to part with the body.

Defense counsel Christos Psarras has formally challenged the findings of the expert medical report currently included in the case file. Consequently, the defense plans to appoint an independent technical advisor to conduct a review of the forensic evidence. Furthermore, the defense has criticized the leakage of sensitive case information and has questioned the adequacy of state services involved in the matter. The parents are now seeking a psychiatric evaluation as part of their strategy to contest the current findings within the legal proceedings.
