Record-breaking summer transfer activity in the Greek Super League

The summer of 2026 marked a historic period for the Greek Stoiximan Super League, with total transfer spending reaching 160 million euros. The final week of the transfer window, between August 28 and September 3, was particularly intense, with 52 million euros spent in those few days alone. Key arrivals included Azzedine Ounahi to Panathinaikos and Leon Bailey to Olympiacos, following earlier major signings such as Gustavo Puerta, the most expensive transfer in the league's history, alongside players like Looza, Ugresic, and Pedersen.

According to data from Transfermarkt, the overall expenditure on international transfers involving Greek players during this period reached 172 million euros. This placed Greece 16th in global spending rankings. While England topped the global list with over 1.08 billion euros spent on players, including record deals for Morgan Rogers and Elliot Anderson, the Greek league successfully shattered its previous transfer records set earlier in July. These investments have significantly raised the financial threshold for future transfer windows in the country.
