UEFA has officially announced disciplinary actions against players Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood following incidents during the match between Lyon and Fenerbahce. The European football governing body investigated the behavior of the participants during the encounter, citing a commitment to maintaining sportsmanship and order within continental competitions.
Matteo Guendouzi received a severe four-match ban and a 50,000 euro fine for aggressive conduct and provocative gestures directed at Lyon fans. Two of these matches are effective immediately, meaning he will miss the upcoming games against Roma on September 10 and Aston Villa on October 14, while the remaining two matches are suspended for a one-year probationary period. Additionally, Mason Greenwood was sanctioned with a 30,000 euro fine and a one-match suspension, which is also suspended, pending his future conduct in UEFA competitions.
