Cyprus dam water levels reach 39.3 percent capacity as of September

As of September 1, 2026, the total water storage in Cyprus's twenty-one major dams stands at 39.3 percent of their total capacity, amounting to 117.9 million cubic meters. While this figure marks a significant improvement over the same period last year, when storage was at 15.5 percent with 46.4 million cubic meters, it remains considerably lower than the 76 percent recorded in September 2022, which was the highest level in the last five years.

Over the past three months, high temperatures have led to increased evaporation, resulting in a net decrease of approximately 7 million cubic meters of water. Currently, only four dams are operating at high capacity exceeding 85 percent, including Kalopanagiotis at 100 percent, Klirou-Malounta-Akaki at 89.7 percent, Solea at 88 percent, and Tamassos at 86 percent. Other facilities are categorized as being at 'good,' 'moderate,' or 'low' levels, with six dams currently reporting low storage, including Kouris, Mavrokolympos, and Asprokremmos.

Authorities from the Water Development Department continue to monitor these reserves. The current data is being used to assess the island's ongoing water management situation following the summer period.
