John Breslow, the U.S. ambassador-designate to Cyprus, arrived in the country on September 5, 2026. This procedure will mark the official commencement of his tenure as the American ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus.

Breslow, a businessman and former Nebraska state auditor, was nominated for the position by U.S. President Donald Trump and received Senate confirmation on August 7, 2026. Notably, he is the first non-career political appointee to hold this role, departing from the tradition of selecting career diplomats for the position. During his confirmation hearing in April, Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Jim Risch described this appointment as a significant step, emphasizing that it reflects a positive evolution in the diplomatic relations between Washington and Nicosia.
