Recent wildfires in Cyprus districts of Paphos and Nicosia

In early September 2026, Cyprus experienced several forest fires across the Paphos and Nicosia districts. On September 5, a fire occurred at the 'Mersinoudia' location in Androlykou, Paphos, which was controlled within fifteen minutes by a Forestry Department team of four using one fire engine after burning dry grass.

Subsequently, on September 6, firefighters in Nicosia responded to a blaze near Menoiko that affected dry grass and stubble, which was successfully contained without further spread. On the morning of September 7, a more significant incident occurred in Argaka, Paphos, near the boundary of a private residence and state forest. Detected at 9:30 AM, the fire consumed approximately 0.5 decares of land before being contained. While aerial assets were initially alerted, they were not required as ground crews intervened within minutes.

The Forestry Department confirmed that the Argaka fire was caused by the use of metal-cutting tools (smyrilio). Authorities are investigating the causes of these fires and enforcing legal procedures where applicable. Meanwhile, additional minor fires were reported near Malounta and Klirou in Nicosia, which were also swiftly contained by local fire crews.
