Series of fires reported across Cyprus between September 7 and 8

A series of fires occurred across Cyprus on September 7 and 8, impacting both forested areas and residential properties. On Monday morning, a forest fire in Argaka, Paphos, was contained after burning 0.5 decares of land; authorities believe the fire was ignited by a metal-cutting tool. Later that day, another wildfire occurred between Malounta and Klirou, involving multiple firefighting units, while a further blaze was reported near the Lympia highway exit on Tuesday morning, suspected to have been caused by a cigarette butt.

Simultaneously, the Fire Service responded to several residential incidents. A house fire in Latsia on Monday morning caused extensive damage to a kitchen, with officials ruling out electrical causes. Another fire occurred on Monday night in a Geroskipou apartment due to an unattended cooking pot, and on Tuesday morning, a storage shed attached to a house in Ayia Napa caught fire, damaging the structure and a nearby parked vehicle. In all residential cases, occupants were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. Investigations into the causes of these incidents remain ongoing where not already determined.
