Ayoub El Kaabi suffers serious leg fracture during Olympiacos match against Volos
Olympiacos was held to a 1-1 draw by Volos at the Panthessaliko Stadium on September 5, 2026, during the third round of the Stoiximan Super League. Jota Silva scored for Olympiacos via a penalty, while Kompa equalized for Volos in the 76th minute. The result marked the first points dropped by the Piraeus side this season.
The match was overshadowed by a severe injury to Olympiacos forward Ayoub El Kaabi in the 43rd minute following a collision with Volos goalkeeper Marios Siampanis. El Kaabi suffered a tibia-fibula fracture and was stretchered off the pitch. Siampanis, visibly distressed, later issued an apology on social media, expressing regret for the incident.
Team doctor Christos Theos is scheduled to perform surgery on El Kaabi on Sunday, September 6. Medical projections suggest an estimated recovery period of six to seven months. Olympiacos manager Jose Luis Mendilibar noted that the team was deeply affected by the incident, which contributed to their lackluster performance in the second half. The two clubs are scheduled to face each other again on September 8 in the Greek Cup.
