Olympiacos draws with Volos as El Kaabi suffers serious injury
Olympiacos played to a 1-1 draw against Volos at the Panthessaliko Stadium on September 5, 2026, during the third round of the Stoiximan Super League. The match was marred by a severe collision in the 43rd minute between Olympiacos striker Ayoub El Kaabi and Volos goalkeeper Siampanis, which resulted in a penalty for Olympiacos, converted by Jota Silva in stoppage time. However, the game ended in a draw after Kompa equalized for Volos in the 76th minute following a defensive error by Retsos.
El Kaabi was carried off the field on a stretcher and diagnosed with a tibial fracture, requiring surgery scheduled for Sunday. Olympiacos manager Jose Luis Mendilibar noted that the team was visibly traumatized by the event, affecting their performance in the second half. Additionally, player Roka left the match with a left shoulder injury. The recovery period for El Kaabi is estimated to be at least six to seven months.
The two teams are scheduled to face each other again on September 8, 2026, at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium for the second round of the Superbet Greek Cup. Olympiacos will host OFI in their next league fixture.
