U.S. envoys hold discussions in Moscow on the war in Ukraine

U.S. special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday for high-level talks concerning the ongoing war in Ukraine. The American envoys were met by Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev and held discussions with President Vladimir Putin. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov described the meetings as constructive and frank, covering both the conflict and potential bilateral economic projects. President Putin reiterated Russia's commitment to seeking diplomatic solutions while emphasizing the necessity of achieving the objectives of what the Kremlin calls the special military operation.

Following the Moscow visit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that the U.S. envoys are scheduled to travel to Ukraine on Sunday. Zelenskiy also reported that Russian forces conducted strikes on two Ukrainian airports shortly before the envoys' arrival. U.S. President Donald Trump indicated on Friday that the United States has developed a new, concrete proposal to end the conflict, which is currently in its fifth year. Despite these diplomatic efforts, significant differences between the positions of Moscow and Kyiv persist regarding the potential resolution of the war.
