Tender launched for the Denia-Akaki-Astromeritis motorway project

The government has launched a tender for the design and construction of the new Denia-Akaki-Astromeritis motorway, a critical project for the Nicosia-Troodos road network. The 18-kilometer highway, valued at 138 million euros excluding VAT, is designed to divert significant traffic away from the residential areas of Akaki, Peristerona, and Astromeritis.

The infrastructure includes four lanes with a central safety barrier, 3.5-meter-wide traffic lanes, and three-meter-wide paved shoulders. Technical components involve the construction of six bridges—including two major valley bridges crossing the Akaki and Peristerona rivers—and five grade-separated junctions, along with a closed rainwater drainage system. While most details were consistent across reports, sources varied on the specific count of junctions, with some noting four while others specified five.

This project represents Phase III of the broader Nicosia-Troodos motorway development, following the completed Nicosia-Kokkinotrimithia and Kokkinotrimithia-Denia segments. Construction is slated to begin in the first half of 2027, with a 54-month implementation timeline. The project is expected to be finalized during the second half of 2031, effectively connecting the existing Nicosia-Kokkinotrimithia motorway with the future Astromeritis-Eurychou extension.
