Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture receives recommendations for fair working conditions
The Cypriot Deputy Ministry of Culture has received a formal set of recommendations aimed at improving working conditions within the country's cultural sector. These guidelines, titled "Recommendations for Fair Working Conditions in the Cultural Sector," were submitted following the "ASK PAY TRUST" conference held on June 10 in Larnaca. The event was organized by D6 and Larnaca 2030 in collaboration with Culture Action Europe, bringing together artists, researchers, policymakers, and cultural professionals to discuss systemic issues such as social protection, fair remuneration, and the phenomenon of "invisible labor.
The initiative aims to move cultural policy discourse from abstract recognition toward actionable professional standards. The proposed framework incorporates policy examples from countries like Spain, Belgium, and Ireland. The publication of these recommendations arrives at a critical juncture for the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Culture, Clea Papaellina, who is tasked with addressing long-standing structural challenges in the sector. Following a period of initial meetings and diplomatic engagements, the Ministry is now under pressure to translate these proposals into tangible policy shifts as the local cultural season gains momentum.
