ECHR narrows scope of Odysseas Michaelides' appeal against his dismissal

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has notified the Republic of Cyprus regarding a complaint filed by former Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides concerning his removal from office. Following an initial review, the Court decided to limit its examination exclusively to the claim involving freedom of expression, effectively dismissing the other two components of his original appeal filed in December 2024.

According to the Cypriot Law Office, the claims regarding the right to a fair trial and the violation of his reputation have been ruled inadmissible. While Michaelides characterized the communication from the ECHR as a positive development in his social media discourse, legal sources emphasize that the majority of his arguments were rejected, significantly narrowing the scope of the case that will proceed to the next stage of judicial review.
