Cyprus Minister of Agriculture announces consultations on future EU agricultural policy

On September 6, 2026, the Cypriot Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, Christos Senekis, announced the launch of broad consultations with the national agricultural sector. This initiative aims to identify the specific needs and challenges faced by local farmers to ensure that the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) framework post-2027 reflects the realities of agricultural production in Cyprus.

Speaking at the 46th Kolokasi Festival in Sotira, Minister Senekis confirmed that the first open consultation session is scheduled for October 8. The government intends to engage with farmers and relevant stakeholders to gather direct feedback and recommendations for the upcoming planning phase. The Minister highlighted that the current 2023-2027 Strategic Plan for the CAP remains the primary support mechanism, providing total funding of 454 million euros. He noted that there has been a positive response and increased participation from producers regarding the interventions already implemented under the current strategic framework.

The upcoming consultations are intended to refine the national strategy to better serve local food production. The data collected during these sessions will be utilized to design the policy structure for the period following 2027, ensuring the sector remains competitive and supported by state and European resources.
