Cyprus police to launch nationwide motorcycle safety campaign

The Cyprus Police has announced a nationwide traffic enforcement campaign specifically targeting motorcyclists and moped riders. The initiative is scheduled to run from Monday, September 7, 2026, through Sunday, September 13, 2026. During this week-long period, traffic officers will conduct systematic checks at key locations across the country to address high-risk driving behaviors.

The primary focus of the operation includes the enforcement of protective helmet use, sobriety tests for alcohol and drug consumption, and speed limit compliance. Officers will also monitor for other traffic violations that compromise road safety. This intensive policing effort is a direct response to the rising number of fatalities involving two-wheeled vehicles.

Authorities have released data showing that 14 people lost their lives in motorcycle and moped-related collisions between January 1, 2026, and September 3, 2026. The casualties included 12 motorcycle drivers, one moped driver, and one motorcycle passenger. The campaign aims to reduce these incidents through increased visibility and strict adherence to traffic laws.
