Cypriot authorities arrest 41 individuals for illegal residency in Nicosia

On September 6, 2026, the Aliens and Immigration Service (Y.A.M.) conducted a coordinated operation in the Nicosia district, resulting in the arrest of 41 third-country nationals residing illegally within the Republic of Cyprus.

Following the arrests, 16 of the individuals were immediately deported to their countries of origin. The remaining 25 people have been transferred to a designated hosting facility. In coordination with the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection, authorities have initiated the formal procedures required for their repatriation.

These actions are part of an ongoing state effort to manage irregular migration within the country. Official data indicates that since the beginning of 2026, a total of 6,370 individuals who were residing illegally in the Republic have been repatriated through both forced and voluntary return programs. The authorities continue to monitor and process these cases to ensure compliance with immigration laws.
