Tempi rail disaster trial resumes in Larissa

The trial regarding the February 2023 train collision at Tempi resumed on September 7, 2026, at the University of Thessaly’s Gaiopolis complex in Larissa, following a summer recess. The proceedings involve 36 defendants, including former high-ranking officials and employees from various state rail organizations, such as OSE, ERGOSE, RAS, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and Hellenic Train, covering the period between 2016 and 2023.

After 25 procedural hearings and over 150 days of legal activity, the court has transitioned to the evidentiary stage. During the initial sessions following the resumption, seven defendants appeared in court to deny the charges against them, a move that sparked tension among victims' relatives present in the chamber. The court has now begun hearing testimony from families of the victims, starting with the relatives of the passenger train conductor, Giorgos Koutsoumpas.

Following the completion of these testimonies, the court will proceed with the examination of the witnesses listed in the indictment. The case aims to establish accountability for the collision, with the victims' families emphasizing their commitment to seeking full justice throughout the ongoing judicial process.
