Trial for Tempi railway accident resumes in Larissa

The trial regarding the Tempi railway accident has resumed today at the GAIOPOLIS complex of the University of Thessaly in Larissa, following an August hiatus. The proceedings continue after a July 28 session during which the prosecutor of the Three-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies formally presented charges against 36 defendants. These individuals include former and current high-ranking officials and employees from various entities, such as OSE, ERGOSE, RAS, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and Hellenic Train, covering the period from 2016 to 2023.

Today marks the commencement of the procedural stage for defense arguments. While some defense attorneys have already presented their claims, others are expected to do so now. Following the completion of these presentations, the court will finalize the list of witnesses. The evidentiary phase will then officially begin with the testimonies of the first group of witnesses, specifically the family of the train driver involved in the tragedy. The court has signaled that this sequence is essential to establishing the foundational accounts of the incident as the judicial process moves forward.
