Ongoing search for missing passengers after Kyrenia shipwreck

Following the sinking of the passenger vessel 'Filo Jet' off the coast of Kyrenia on August 30, rescue teams continue 24-hour operations to locate remaining missing persons. Recent search efforts resulted in the recovery of one additional body, identified as a man between 55 and 60 years old. This discovery brings the total confirmed death toll to 14, with 14 individuals still reported as missing. Turkish authorities have arrested eight crew members, including the captain, as President Tayyip Erdogan attributed the maritime tragedy to human error.

The search has entered its 11th day, with operations now focusing on the wreck site located at a depth of 554 meters. 'Prime Minister' Unal Ustel traveled to Ankara to coordinate with Turkish officials, including Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz and Defense Minister Yasar Guler. During these high-level discussions, the authorities authorized the engagement of a specialized private firm to assist in deep-sea recovery efforts for the victims remaining on the seafloor. The Turkish military is providing extensive support, deploying nine vessels and 11 aircraft to the area.
