Police investigate string of nine business burglaries in Nicosia

A series of nine burglaries occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 7, 2026, targeting various businesses in the Pera Chorio Nisou and Agia Varvara areas of Nicosia, Cyprus. The perpetrators, reportedly two individuals riding a black scooter, used heavy objects or stones to shatter glass entrances before entering the premises to steal cash from registers.

The targets included five pharmacies, a kiosk, a mini-market, a grocery store, and a cafeteria. According to official police reports, the thieves managed to steal a combined total of approximately 5,900 euros. Authorities successfully recovered three damaged cash registers and several other items abandoned in the Dali and Agia Varvara regions, which are now being processed as evidence alongside other forensic samples collected from the crime scenes.

The Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (TAE), in collaboration with the Pera Chorio Police Station, is currently conducting a thorough investigation. Officials are analyzing CCTV footage that captured the suspects in action to facilitate their identification and arrest. Local authorities, including Mayor Stavros Hatzigiannis, have expressed concern over the recurring nature of these attacks and have called for increased police presence to ensure the safety of local business owners.
