Limassol police officer arrested for theft of seized evidence

A 45-year-old police officer in Limassol has been arrested and suspended from duty following an investigation into the theft of an electric scooter. The vehicle, which had been seized by police on September 2, 2026, after a suspect fled the scene during a routine stop, was being held at a local station as evidence. The officer was allegedly caught loading the confiscated scooter into his private vehicle, an act he reportedly confessed to upon discovery by his colleagues.

Following the arrest, Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis ordered the immediate suspension of the officer. The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) is currently handling the case, with the suspect facing multiple serious charges, including theft by a public official, abuse of power, fraud, and breach of trust. Investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing as the case moves toward judicial proceedings.
