Police officer arrested in Limassol for theft of confiscated scooter

A 45-year-old police officer in Limassol was arrested by his colleagues after allegedly stealing an electric scooter that was being held as evidence at a local police station. The incident occurred on September 2, 2026, when the officer was caught loading the vehicle into his personal car. The scooter had previously been confiscated by police following an encounter with a suspect who managed to escape. Upon realizing the evidence was missing, internal investigations led to the identification and arrest of the officer, who reportedly admitted to the act.

Following the arrest, Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis ordered that the officer be placed on immediate suspension. The suspect now faces multiple criminal charges, including theft by a public official, abuse of power, fraud, and breach of trust. The case is currently being investigated by the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (TAE), and the suspect is expected to appear in court as the legal process continues.
