Parental protests escalate over school infrastructure in Tremithousa and Ypsonas

Organized parents in Tremithousa and Ypsonas are protesting against inadequate school infrastructure as the new academic year approaches. In Tremithousa, parents are opposing the removal of a portable classroom from their primary school, arguing it disrupts operations and warning of dynamic reactions if the Ministry of Education does not find an alternative solution. This school currently operates exclusively using portable units, and parents have held a protest demanding upgrades instead of further reductions.

Simultaneously, the Coordinating Committee of Parent Associations of Ypsonas has filed a formal complaint with the Department of Labour Inspection. Representing 2,682 students across seven public schools, the committee describes the local education system as being on the verge of collapse. They cite the use of corroded and unsuitable portable classrooms, a lack of safety certification, and overcrowding. Despite seven meetings with the Minister of Education over three years, parents demand strategic infrastructure planning, specifically the construction of a second gymnasium and a second lyceum to accommodate the rapid population growth in the region. The committee has warned of further mobilization to protect student interests.
