Parents of Ypsonas school children threaten protests over infrastructure crisis

The Coordinating Committee of Parents' Associations of public schools in Ypsonas and Kourion declared that the local education system is on the verge of collapse. Representing 2,682 students, the committee has officially complained to the Department of Labour Inspection and warned of dynamic protest actions following three years of unsuccessful negotiations with the Ministry of Education, including seven meetings and numerous formal requests.

Parents report that students are being taught in unsuitable, corroded portable classrooms that lack safety certification. These conditions are exacerbated by severe overcrowding, which has forced the use of temporary facilities in school courtyards. Despite Ypsonas experiencing significant residential and population growth, the Ministry has failed to address the urgent necessity for the construction of a second gymnasium and a second lyceum to accommodate the increasing number of pupils.

The committee demands a strategic implementation of infrastructure projects with clear timelines to ensure child safety and adequate educational standards. Currently, the parents have moved from dialogue to formal complaints and threats of active protest, signaling a total breakdown in communication between the local community and state authorities regarding the future of public education in the district.
