Ypsonas and Episkopi parents protest over school infrastructure failures

Parents of 2,682 students across seven public schools in Ypsonas and the Curium municipality have issued a formal complaint to the labour inspection department, citing dangerous conditions and overcrowding. Despite seven meetings with the Minister of Education over three years, parents report that schools remain in a state of near collapse, featuring deteriorating prefabricated classrooms and a lack of proper certification. The committee demands strategic infrastructure planning, specifically the construction of a second gymnasium and lyceum. The Ministry has been given until September 10 to respond, with parents threatening to report the issue to the EU and initiate a student boycott on September 14 if their demands are ignored.

Simultaneously, the Parents' Association of Episkopi Elementary School organized a peaceful protest on September 9 to demand long-overdue infrastructure improvements, including a multi-purpose hall promised since 2013. The association has warned that they will keep their children home on September 14 if progress is not made. Additionally, concerns regarding student safety have arisen at a Ypsonas school, where construction work left the main entrance blocked, leading to confusion among parents regarding access routes for the upcoming school year.
