New research on body image among traditional dancers in Cyprus
A new interdisciplinary research project has commenced at the Well-being, Eating and Appearance Research Laboratory (W.E.A.R.L.) of Neapolis University Pafos in Cyprus. The study investigates the relationship between body image, body appreciation, and eating behaviors among adults participating in traditional dance groups, aiming to explore how cultural dance practices influence psychological well-being.
The project is supported by the EMERGE Third-Places scholarship, awarded to Professor Dimitrios Goulimaris from the Democritus University of Thrace. He is collaborating with Professor Marios Argyrides, Vice Rector at Neapolis University Pafos, who serves as the Director of W.E.A.R.L. and President of the Department of Psychology. By combining dance with health psychology and counseling, the study seeks to understand the connection between cultural identity, physical activity, and potential eating disorders within this specific demographic.
