Cyprus records growth in employment and GDP for second quarter of 2026

Cyprus saw positive economic indicators during the second quarter of 2026, characterized by growth in both employment and GDP. According to data from the national statistical service, Cystat, total employment reached 525,167 people, marking a 1.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This workforce comprised 472,254 employees and 52,913 self-employed individuals. Furthermore, actual hours worked rose to 246.57 million, an increase of 2.2% year-on-year. The sectors contributing most significantly to these gains include wholesale and retail trade, vehicle repair, construction, and arts and entertainment.

Simultaneously, Eurostat data highlights that the Cypriot economy grew by 0.8% on a quarterly basis and 3.3% annually. While Cystat reports a 1.7% year-on-year employment increase, Eurostat figures estimate this growth at 1.6%. The quarterly employment growth of 0.5% indicates a recovery following the stagnation observed in the first quarter of 2026. These figures reflect a consistent, albeit slightly fluctuating, upward trend in the local labor market and national production over the past year.
