Paphos tourism board introduces eight new beach wheelchairs

On September 7, 2026, the Paphos Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP) announced the distribution of eight specialized beach wheelchairs to local authorities. This initiative aims to improve accessibility and travel experiences for individuals with mobility challenges across the Paphos region, aligning with the area's broader strategy to become a more inclusive and accessible tourist destination.

The wheelchairs have been allocated as follows: one to the Municipality of Paphos, two to the Municipality of Geroskipou, two to the Municipality of Akamas, two to the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, and one to the community of Chloraka. These devices are designed to allow safe access to the water, marking a practical step toward universal accessibility.

In parallel, ETAP has commissioned a comprehensive accessibility assessment for the region, which is currently being conducted by the European University of Cyprus with support from the American University of Beirut. According to ETAP director Nasos Chatzigeorgiou, the study involves mapping both public and private infrastructure and is expected to be completed by mid-2027. This evaluation will serve as the foundation for future planning and necessary interventions to make Paphos a more accessible destination for all visitors and residents.
