Thomas Walkup departs Olympiacos for Dubai BC
Thomas Walkup has officially joined Dubai BC following a protracted contract dispute with Olympiacos. After a five-year tenure in Piraeus that included 12 titles and a EuroLeague championship in May 2026, the 33-year-old guard sought an exit after receiving a lucrative offer from the Emirati club. To avoid litigation, both teams reached an out-of-court settlement that facilitated his transfer.
Financial reports regarding the deal remain contradictory. Greek sources suggest a buyout of approximately 2.24 to 2.6 million dollars and an annual salary for the player of 2.5 million euros. Conversely, Basketnews reports indicate the buyout was closer to 1.55 million euros, with the player contributing to the cost and earning roughly 2.15 million euros annually on a three-year contract.
Walkup issued a formal farewell to Olympiacos fans and ownership, expressing gratitude for his tenure. He is now set to face his former team on the court, with the first encounter tentatively scheduled for November 12, 2026, on Greek soil. Further matches against Greek clubs, including Panathinaikos, are expected throughout the upcoming season.
