Thomas Walkup leaves Olympiacos for Dubai BC
American guard Thomas Walkup has officially joined Dubai BC following an out-of-court settlement between the club and Olympiacos. The agreement ends a dispute that arose after Walkup, who had skipped Olympiacos' preseason training sessions, filed a contract termination claim following a lucrative offer from the Emirati side. To finalize the transfer, Dubai BC will pay Olympiacos a buyout fee reported to be 2.6 million dollars (approximately 2.24 million euros). Walkup, whose annual salary at Olympiacos was 1.15 million euros, is expected to earn 2.5 million euros per season with his new team.
Walkup departs after a successful five-year tenure in Piraeus, during which he contributed to 12 titles, five consecutive EuroLeague Final Four appearances, and a European championship victory last May. Olympiacos confirmed the deal, noting that this agreement signifies the start of a closer relationship between the two clubs based on mutual respect and commitment to EuroLeague values. Walkup has already expressed his enthusiasm about joining his new team and beginning this next phase of his career.
