Couple assaulted by three men in Mesara, Crete
In the early hours of Sunday, September 6, 2026, a violent incident occurred in a village in the Mesara region of Crete. A 40-year-old man and his 36-year-old wife were attacked following a chance encounter with three individuals, identified as two 17-year-olds and one 25-year-old. The confrontation was reportedly triggered by offensive messages previously exchanged between minors, one of whom is the couple's daughter.
According to reports, the verbal dispute escalated when the suspects allegedly assaulted the parents using their fists and traditional Cretan wooden sticks known as 'katsounes'. During the struggle, damage was also inflicted upon the couple's vehicle. Both victims were subsequently transported to a local hospital to receive first aid for their injuries.
The Archanes-Asterousia Police Department is currently investigating the incident. Authorities are actively searching for the three suspects, who fled the scene, to bring them into custody.
