Akamas Municipality hosts Carob Festival at Cape Drepanon

The Akamas Municipality hosted the 'Carob Festival' at Cape Drepanon, where Mayor Marinos Lambrou reaffirmed the municipality's commitment to preserving the region's natural and historical heritage. The event highlighted the historical significance of the area, which served as a commercial transit station and agricultural center for centuries.

Mayor Lambrou detailed the site's rich archaeological wealth, including three basilicas with mosaic floors, ancient baths, rock-cut tombs, and an episcopal palace. He specifically acknowledged the Archbishop of Cyprus, Georgios, for his contribution to the renovation and transformation of the local square, which the mayor described as a vital landmark for the municipality.

The festival centered on the carob, often referred to as the 'black gold' of Cyprus. Mayor Lambrou noted that this product was historically a key agricultural export and a major source of income for areas like Pegeia. The event emphasized the importance of maintaining local traditions and safeguarding cultural heritage for future generations.
