Anorthosis struggles to open east stand for APOEL match

Anorthosis football club is currently working to secure a safety certificate for the east stand of the Freedom Antonis Papadopoulos stadium ahead of the home match against APOEL, scheduled for Saturday, September 12. As of Monday, September 7, the stand lacked the necessary operational permit due to concerns regarding structural integrity and seismic resistance.

The club management is collaborating with a civil engineer to carry out urgent reinforcement and repair works. The goal is to complete these interventions by Wednesday, September 9, and submit the certification to the Licensing Authority for final approval. The deadline is critical, as local police require the final safety data by Thursday, September 10, to finalize security arrangements for the match.

Should the stand remain unlicensed, it will be closed to the public, affecting ticket availability for Anorthosis supporters and reducing the 10% capacity allocation typically reserved for APOEL fans. An official inspection will determine whether the stadium is deemed safe for operation or if further restrictions will be imposed on the upcoming derby.
