Turkish president warns against encirclement following cabinet meeting

Following a Turkish cabinet meeting on September 7, 2026, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a firm warning regarding his country's regional security. Without identifying a specific nation, he declared that Ankara will not remain idle in the face of what he characterized as hostile attempts to "encircle" Turkey. In addition to these geopolitical comments, Erdogan addressed a shipwreck off the coast of occupied Kyrenia. He attributed the incident to human error and confirmed that Turkey is supporting rescue operations in coordination with the de facto authorities. The mission currently involves nine ships and 11 aircraft. According to the reported figures, 14 people have lost their lives in the disaster, while 14 others remain missing.
