Trial for the murder of Stavros Dimosthenous begins in Limassol

The trial regarding the murder of 49-year-old businessman Stavros Dimosthenous, which took place on October 17, 2025, in Limassol, commenced on September 8, 2026. Six defendants originally entered pleas of not guilty to 15 charges, including premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder, arson of a vehicle, and illegal possession of firearms and explosives. The prosecution alleges that one 30-year-old defendant coordinated the purchase of a motorcycle used for escape from prison, while a 31-year-old acted as the driver of the getaway van. Evidence includes genetic material from a 51-year-old defendant found in a stolen vehicle used to track the victim.

During the initial hearing, a significant shift occurred as prosecutors added a 16th charge of theft against one of the 30-year-old defendants, who agreed to plead guilty regarding the theft of a priest's vehicle in October 2025. Simultaneously, the Limassol Criminal Court announced the suspension of criminal proceedings against three of the initial defendants, following instructions from the Attorney General. The trial is set to continue throughout September with multiple scheduled dates to examine further evidence and testimonies.
