Cyprus police conduct island-wide operations to curb crime

Over the weekend of September 6-7, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted intensive island-wide operations to maintain public order and combat criminal activity. On Saturday night, officers inspected 783 vehicles and 1,025 individuals, resulting in seven arrests for various offences including robbery, theft, drug-related charges, and illegal residency. Furthermore, police checked 65 establishments, issuing 10 charges, while traffic authorities recorded 273 violations, including 83 speeding cases and 19 charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol. 15 vehicles were seized during this period.

A follow-up operation reported on Monday confirmed that an additional eight people were arrested for similar offenses, such as burglary, drug possession, and illegal residency. Authorities inspected 545 vehicles and 756 individuals, resulting in 266 reports, 82 of which involved speeding. Additionally, 35 establishments were raided with one charge filed, and 19 vehicles were impounded. The police stated that these operations are part of an ongoing initiative designed to enhance public safety and will continue on a nightly basis across the island.
