Police conduct string of overnight security operations across Cyprus

Throughout early September 2026, the Cyprus police force conducted a series of intensive, nationwide overnight security operations aimed at crime prevention and public order. Between Saturday, September 5, and Wednesday, September 9, officers carried out thousands of inspections targeting vehicles, individuals, and commercial premises.

Over the course of these operations, 33 individuals were arrested for various offenses, including illegal residency, robbery, theft, burglary, and drug possession. Traffic enforcement was a primary focus: police inspected over 2,300 vehicles, resulting in hundreds of traffic complaints—including over 340 for speeding—and the impoundment of 47 vehicles. Additionally, officers conducted widespread alcohol and drug testing, which yielded multiple charges for driving under the influence. Inspections were also extended to 137 premises, leading to 18 regulatory reports.

These activities were initiated as part of a recurring police strategy to enhance public safety by maintaining a visible and active presence on the roads and in commercial areas. Law enforcement authorities confirmed that these operations are ongoing, with night patrols continuing regularly across the island to monitor compliance and deter criminal activity.
