Cyprus tourism sector reports recovery following spring decline

Following a record-breaking 2025 with 4.53 million arrivals, the Cypriot tourism industry faced significant challenges in early 2026. The resurgence of instability in the Middle East led to sharp declines in visitor numbers, specifically drops of 30.7% in March and 27.6% in April.

Market conditions improved significantly by mid-summer, with July arrivals showing a recovery to just 1.1% below the levels of the previous year, following a 1.7% decrease in June. Despite this recent momentum, total arrivals for the January-July 2026 period remain 8.0% lower compared to 2025, representing a shortfall of 193,000 visitors. Notably, arrivals from Israel increased by 8.6%, adding 25,000 visitors, whereas the United Kingdom, the primary source market, saw an 11.1% decline, accounting for 90,000 fewer visitors.

According to analysis by Eurobank Research, the industry maintains a cautiously positive outlook for the remainder of the year. Future performance remains contingent on regional stability, travel advisories from key source markets, and the ongoing travel intent of international tourists.
