Nicosia Municipal Market transformation project competes for REGIOSTARS awards

The transformation project of the Old Nicosia Municipal Market into the CYENS Research and Innovation Centre has been selected as one of the 25 finalists for the 2026 REGIOSTARS Awards. Chosen from 274 initial entries, the project competes in the 'A Competitive and Smart Europe' category. This initiative was funded through the 'THALIA 2021-2027' Cohesion Policy Program, involving contributions from the European Union, the Republic of Cyprus, and the Nicosia Municipality.

REGIOSTARS Awards is an annual European institution that honors projects demonstrating high innovation and positive regional impact. For the 2026 edition, organizers will grant six awards: five selected by a jury based on competition categories and one Public Choice Award decided via pan-European voting. The Nicosia Municipality has encouraged citizens to support the project through the ongoing online public vote.

The final stage of the competition will take place on October 13, 2026, in Brussels. During the European Week of Regions and Cities, the 25 finalists are scheduled to present their respective projects before the judging panel and the public to conclude the selection process.
