Lemesos officials discuss police headquarters relocation and increased security measures

On Friday, September 4, 2026, Minister of Justice and Public Order Kostas Fytiris and Lemesos Mayor Yiannis Armeftis met to discuss critical public safety initiatives. The meeting, which included Lemesos Police Director Stelios Aristeidou and other senior officials, followed initial discussions held in March to address crime prevention and urban order.

A central component of the strategy is the reinforcement of police presence through the expansion of the Bicycle Police and the motorcycle-based “Z” Unit, facilitated by recent police recruitment. Authorities are also evaluating the use of a property on Anexartisias Street to house the Community and Bicycle police divisions. Furthermore, participants addressed concerns regarding noise pollution, road safety, and the optimization of the Central Coordinating Body for Crime Prevention.

The meeting also prioritized the urgent relocation of the current Lemesos District Police Headquarters. Officials examined the possibility of utilizing state-owned land for a new facility, with Mayor Armeftis requesting that the existing site be transferred to the municipality upon the police's departure. Minister Fytiris committed to reviewing this proposal and providing a formal response to the municipality, while both parties agreed on the necessity of regular, structured information sharing between local government and law enforcement agencies.
