Limassol authorities discuss enhanced policing and department relocation

On September 4, 2026, the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Costas Fytiris, met with the Mayor of Limassol, Yiannis Armeftis, to address public safety and policing in the city. The meeting, which also included Limassol Police Chief Stelios Aristeides and other police officials, focused on increasing the physical presence of law enforcement in the city center and neighborhoods.

A central component of the discussions was the planned relocation of the Limassol Police Directorate and the potential use of a property on Anexartisias Street to house the Community and Bicycle Police units. Minister Fytiris noted that recent police recruitment efforts will support the expansion of the Bicycle Police and the specialized 'Z' unit. Furthermore, the officials addressed road safety, noise pollution, and the effectiveness of the Central Coordinating Body for Crime Prevention, emphasizing the need for regular information sharing between local and state authorities.

This meeting follows a series of consultations initiated in March. The proposed measures aim to prevent delinquency and improve the general feeling of security among residents, with ongoing assessments regarding the relocation of the main police headquarters.
