Cyprus government news update: new platform for domestic violence and presidential summit

The Cypriot Ministry of Justice is developing a 'Red Flagging' platform, expected to launch by year-end, to improve information sharing among state agencies to combat gender-based and domestic violence. Meanwhile, President Nikos Christodoulidis is set to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in El-Alamein on Tuesday to discuss regional security and cooperation.

Domestic issues include a controversy over the procurement of an armored limousine for the president, costing €595,000, which has drawn public criticism. In Limassol, a police officer was arrested for stealing an electric scooter held as evidence. Additionally, the government has announced a subsidy for childcare for the 2026–2027 school year, covering up to 100% of costs for children over four years old.

Furthermore, the Department of Water Development is proposing a regularization scheme for approximately 20,000 illegal water wells, allowing owners to legalize them by paying a double fee.
