Former Russian minister Nikolay Nikiforov linked to Finiko fraud case

Former Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolay Nikiforov is reportedly the subject of a criminal investigation linked to the Finiko financial fraud case. Citing an unnamed source, the Russian newspaper Vechernyaya Kazan claims that Nikiforov has been placed on Russia’s federal wanted list, with authorities currently considering the issuance of an international arrest warrant.

The investigation intensified following the late August arrest of architect Azat Tukvatulin, a prominent figure in Tatarstan, whose home in Innopolis was searched by security forces. Reports indicate that investigators began looking into Nikiforov shortly after Tukvatulin's detention, though law enforcement has been unable to locate or apprehend the former minister. While the Vechernyaya Kazan report suggests Nikiforov may have relocated to Cyprus, there has been no official confirmation from either Cypriot or Russian authorities regarding his current whereabouts.

Prior to these developments, reports indicate that the former minister had been residing in the United Arab Emirates in recent years, only traveling to Russia periodically.
